On windows system, chkdsk utility verifies and repairs the integrity of the file system on any chosen volume. Chkdsk runs during startup to check for the errors. Other 3rd party tools can’t check file-system integrity; they perform overall disk check and repair respective errors. So there are no perfect alternatives for chkdsk.
You can try some of these utilities to check disk errors and repair them.
HD-Tune is freeware which can do error-scans, check health of disk and perform benchmark.
If you’re using windows XP then you can download image-resizer powertoy. This powertoy can resize images for you. For rest of the windows versions you can’t use image-resizer effectively. So you can use following alternatives.
Photo toy clone is clone of image-resizer utility. It works exactly like image-resizer and works with windows vista, windows 7 and windows XP.
Image-resizer 2.0 is one more utility that does the job for resizing images. It works with future versions of windows like windows 7, windows vista. You can install it on windows xp as well.
Autorun can cause a lot of trouble if any virus sneaks into your system by using autorun feature. I already discussed CD autorun disable method for XP . So in this article i’ll suggest disable autorun for all drives.
Follow these instructions.
1. Click the Start button, then Run and enter “gpedit.msc” without the quotes
2. Go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System
3. Scroll down to “Turn off Autoplay” and double click on it
4. Click on the “Enabled” radio button, then for “Turn off Autoplay on” select “All drives”
This way Autorun will be disabled for USB as well as for CD/DVD rom as well.
When CD is inserted into drive CD Autorun is started. You can disable this feature in windows xp by following steps :
1) Click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC
2) Go to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System.
3) Locate the entry for Turn autoplay off and modify it.
